A few weekends ago it was Canadian Thanksgiving. Since I am friends with a bunch of other Canadians in New York City, we had a dinner party. I assure you, it was so classy and very refined. The evening may or may not have ended with me in a food coma on the floor. Oopsies.
My contributions were pumpkin pie & butternut squash risotto.
I have been a very bad blogger lately! I haven't posted anything in a long, long time.
Today I came home sick from work as I was feeling super nauseous and dizzy. The subway ride home was pretty brutal but now that I'm cozy and in my bed I'm not feeling as terrible. Yay!
Earlier this summer BF & I traveled to Grand Rapids, MI for my cousin's wedding.
Getting to GRR from NYC was really, really difficult. To make things as infuriating as possible for myself, I decided to make a mistake booking my plane ticket and didn't realize until the night before we were supposed to fly. When I originally 'booked', my ticket was about $200. The only tickets that were available the night before were about $600 and at 6am.
This meant that I would no longer be travelling there with my BF because he properly booked his ticket months earlier (like I thought I did). THEN icing on the cake - I somehow slept through my alarm and missed my 6am flight. I have never done that before and couldn't believe I missed a flight - on top of my inflated ticket price I had to pay a hefty change fee & was super late! Usually when I have something to get up early for, I wake up every hour on the hour before my alarm goes off. Craziness!
Anyhoo, despite the trouble we had getting there I actually did make it. Luckily, the town was very pretty and had a gorgeous beach + pier that BF and I walked along.
So pretty right? Who knew that Michigan had such nice beaches.
It seems like so long ago and this was only August. Does anyone else feel like September just never happened?
Well, I'm going to watch some Workaholics & try to fall asleep. Later :)
My glorious roommate and I decided to take a trip to Coney Island to get out of the unbearable Manhattan heat.
It was a very cool place! Super retro with the old carnival rides and freak shows, famous Nathan's Hot Dogs where they host the annual hot dog eating contest (barf - veggie dog for me plz), a not too shabby beach (meaning cleanish, cold water and cool breezes), and a very long boardwalk! Originally, I had planned on venturing out on the E train all by myself and I'm definitely glad I brought a friend. It turned out to be a slightly sketchy borderline ghetto hood.
Overall, well worth the trip! I'm glad I got to see it at least once while I'm living here.
arriving off the subway! so happy we made it.
Nathan's hot dog - complete with countdown board
Roommate and I enjoyed Bud Light Limes, Snyders Honey & Onion Pretzels (the bestest) and strawberries I packed in my beach bag. Yum!
very cool
The weekend we were visiting was the 86th berf-day of the world famous Cyclone!
sideways pic because I felt pretty wacky afterwards
We had to try it out. For $8 per person, I had high hopes and boy oh boy were they met! This was the bounciest, bumpiest, most terrifying wooden roller coaster I've ever been on. After the wild ride, my legs were numb, I was sweating and could barely speak. All signs of a good time ;)
I love old wooden rides (blush) even more than the ones at Canada's Wonderland! For all you Americans out there - please educate yourself on one of my homeland's treasures - http://www.canadaswonderland.com/
Have you been to Coney Island? Do any crazy areas like this exist where you live?
Honey bbq Smart Wings & Raspberry Chia Kombucha. This was my first time trying both of these products.
Kombucha - liked it. A different but refreshing taste. Lots of fiber in it. I'd totally buy this again.
After reading a bunch of stuff online, I learned that this
is a pretty healthy drink. Have you ever tried Kombucha? I find it pretty
pricey (almost $4/ bottle) and I’m not sure of the validity of the health
benefits, but will definitely pick it up again as an occasional treat!
The smart wings on the other hand… ugh…. I brought these to
work today with some frozen green beans. The sauce tasted chemically, kind of
like metal and sugar mixed together. Bleck. The actual ‘wings’ were grainy
tasting (I microwaved them according to the instructions on the box). Maybe if I
pan seared them they would be better? I usually love soy chicken so I was surprised
to toss these out half way through.
Have you tried either
of these products? What did you think??
I felt less hungry, less ' weird' and had fewer cravings. The only really annoying part of day 2 has been getting up to pee every 15 minutes at work. Very inconvenient!
I am getting tired of the taste of the drinks and I really am craving solids. So far my favorite flavor is strawberry mango.
As predicted, at about 3pm each day I hit a wall. Hard. Hopefully Day 3 is better!
Day 2:
Energy Level – About a 6 out of 10, 10 being normal.
Exercise – Heck no. Last night I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and was exhausted by the time I got home.
Sleep – Great, I slept like a (malnourished) baby.
Feeling – Happy. I made it half way! 2 more days of weird juice drinks :) I am already sick of the taste though. Boo! BUT in good news, I am feeling skinnier. I am going to weigh myself on Friday to see what I've lost.
I think I might watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead again to keep on track. I ordered a juicer off of Amazon yesterday and am planning to do a
reboot cleanse closer to my Europe trip. Have you watched this movie?
A friend of mine from Canada gave me 2 packs ofRaw
Greens Meal Saeng-Shik. After sitting in my pantry for over 1 year, I
decided it was time to try it. The package recommends mixing with water and
drinking a 1-2 times a day. If you’d like to substitute this for a meal, you
can mix it with a banana.

Not much to it
My opinion – it tasted like grassy chalk on ice. It smelled like dirt, almost like a barn but not quite as bad. I'm getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.
At first I tried mixing it with water & ice in my magic
bullet. Nasty. How could my Magic Bullet betray me like this?
Next I tried fixing it by adding some frozen berries. Ewwwww. Still
nasty.
Then I tried adding more water and some plain Greek yogurt. Yup,
still nasty. So, so bad.
This was still gross, powdery and bland, but I drank it anyways.I was hungry again in about an hour. #failure lol.
I don’t know if I’m cut out for this kind of drink but, hey, at least I finally tried it.
I have had real green
juice and I actually like it a lot. I think I"ll just stick to the fresh stuff!
Do you own a juicer? Can you recommend any very healthy breakfast mixes that will keep me full and do not taste like abso*f-ing*lutely terrible??
